The True Location of Bigfoot
The True Location of Bigfoot
Over the years, there have been hundreds, even thousands of sightings of a creature most commonly known by the name of Bigfoot. Every location that has had a Bigfoot sighting varies greatly from place to place. There have been Bigfoot sightings everywhere, from Florida to Canada. With sightings becoming only more popular, it is causing people all over to ask questions. Is Bigfoot even real, or is it just something that people are mistaking as Bigfoot? What is Bigfoot? Is it some prehistoric creature that is still around today, is it the undiscovered missing link between primates and humans, or is it some kind of hybrid between the two? While others want to know where to true location of Bigfoot is. With all of these questions being asked, much research has gone underway in order to find the answers. While it may be a surprise to some, Bigfoot does exist and only exists in Florida.
The ides of Bigfoot, along with the Loch Ness Monster and aliens, have always been a though pill for some people to swallow. The idea of there being some kind of creature that is roaming around out there, undiscovered, might not sit well with some, but this the case with the Bigfoot creature. As Michael Newton admits, “from the first years of the 19th century, sightings of unknown hominids or apes continue to the present day” (60). If anything, this just emphasizes that Bigfoot does exist and more efforts should be put forth in research in order to find out more about this creature. Even though there is much more to find out about Bigfoot, there is a general conscious on what these creatures look like. Newton confirms that Bigfoot are very tall, anywhere from 6-12 feet tall and weigh around 300 to 1,000 pounds, they have a head that resembles a bullet in shape, as well as no neck, they have arms that are longer compared to their body and have hair from their heads to their toes and it can range from a reddish-brown in color, to either black or grey, and all of them smell horrible. Some have even been sighted in groups, supposedly their families (61). Many that have seen a Bigfoot have also comment on the way it walks. David Daegling explains that Bigfoot “walks on two legs with a speed and fluidity of motion not seen in humans” (9). Daegling also claims that Bigfoots’ “facial features are reminiscent of apes, yet also vaguely human” (9).
With there being so many statements about Bigfoot resembling both a human as well as some kind of primate, researchers have claimed that Bigfoot is in fact a member of the ape family, some might suggest that these Bigfoot creatures are more specifically members to the great ape family. It is suggested that Bigfoot is a member of the great ape family because as David MacDonald acknowledges “the great apes and man are quite closely related and are the largest living primates” (412), this theory would help explain why Bigfoot is so, tall in stature. There are other similarities between the Bigfoot and apes. As MacDonald discusses, apes have longer arms than legs, prone to walking on the ground, and are able to get around better than humans (412). These have all been characteristics discussed in documented Bigfoot sightings. With the knowledge that Bigfoot is an ape, this can give researchers more help in better understanding other aspects of a Bigfoot’s life, such as the environment is which it thrives. Even though some primates tend to live in various habitats, Animal Planet emphasizes that apes can be found “in the tropical lowland forests of western and central Africa” (1). This helps to explain as well as help others better understand why Bigfoot has been spotted in some of the places that they have.
With there being so much talk about Bigfoot, there is bound to be some people who are willing to go to any extent to try to fool others in to believing that Bigfoot is roaming around in their town. Newton contends that “the Pacific Northwest produces a majority of sightings” (63). The evidence suggests that this is false. Supporters of the Pacific Northwest theory only have blurry photos, videos, and footprints that could have easily been faked. The Patterson film is one of the most important pieces of Bigfoot evidence. Many people offer this as proof that Bigfoot exists, but this film is a very shaky and blurry video of a hairy animal seen from a distance walking across the screen. Video such as the Patterson film is not the only piece of poor evidence that suggests the idea that Bigfoot exists in the Pacific Northwest. Most photos of Bigfoot are like the ones taken by Wayne Burton, where it would appear as though it is a picture of some brush, but then if the photo is zoomed in enough, Bigfoot is supposed to be seen. The problem with this picture and the many others like it, is that the picture is too blurry to begin with, so if it needs to be zoomed in, it is virtually impossible to see the intended subject of the photo. Clearly, the Northwest cannot provide enough evidence to prove that Bigfoot exists in their location.
One place in specific that does show good evidence that Bigfoot exists is Florida. Yes, Florida may not produce as much evidence as other locations do, but the evidence that Florida does have trumps anything else that is put up to it. There is one image in particular that helps to prove that existence of Bigfoot or a Bigfoot-like creature existing in Florida. As explained by Southern Fried Bigfoot, the photo was taken by an anonymous women one night after noticing for weeks that apples off her back porch were going missing, after days of this occurring, the victim decided to go outside and look to see who or what it was that was doing this after hearing some rustling around in her back yard, she decided to go outside and take pictures of the perpetrator and soon realized that this was not the typical thief. In these photos there is a giant ape-like creature that looks as if it is trying to hide itself behind a plant. Even though Florida may have only one picture of this creature compared to the thousands that are taken everywhere else, this one is by far the best. Not only was this picture taken at close range, it also has a very clear image of the face, which does not appear to be a mask or costume of any sort. There have not been any other images of Bigfoot that have been so close or of the face, let alone both in the same image. If the image alone does not prove that a creature like Bigfoot only exists in Florida, then maybe the idea that it would be physically impossible for an ape-like creature like Bigfoot to live anywhere else other than Florida will help. Looking back on the living conditions of apes proves that it would be impossible for a creature like Bigfoot to survive in any other location than that of “tropical” Florida.
Floridians have been aware of these ape-like creatures living in the Sunshine State for so long that they have replaced the name Bigfoot with Skunk ape. The Skunk ape is, as Newton suggests, “is Florida’s version of Bigfoot” (430). Due to the Skunk Ape and Bigfoot being the same thing with different names, the Skunk Ape looks and smells exactly the same as the more common known Bigfoot. Most people are surprised to hear about Florida’s Bigfoot, just adding more evidence for how the creature could live and thrive in Florida, considering that since not many know of its existence, it has the opportunity to wander about, undisturbed for years. Another reason explaining why so many might not have heard about the Skunk Ape is because according to Eliot Kleinberg “the sightings were concentrated locally in the 1970s, when South Florida then had more open space and about half the people it does now” (1).
With all of this information it is practically impossible to think that a Bigfoot-like creature would live anywhere else other than Florida. Considering that Bigfoot is in fact a member of the ape family, it would only make sense that these creatures would live in an environment that is like their natural habitat rather than somewhere that is completely the opposite and not suitable for their survival. It also makes sense as to how these creatures were able to go so long with out really having to deal with as much publicity as people were giving what they thought was Bigfoot on the Northwest. Without being disturbed, these creatures were able to thrive as well as find the proper living conditions that they have in order not to be seen. With all of these facts, it is easy to see that the true location of Bigfoot is Florida.
